February 29

An alarm clock beeped an irritating string of beeps as Hot dog man climbed lazily out of the frying pan. He cast one glance at the framed photo on his nightstand and immediately thought of her. He couldn't live without her. To think about it, they were made for each other. A visit would have to be arranged so he could hold her hand and profess his love. Later that day, Hot Dog man held Lady Mustard's hand as they strode casually down the street. Day dreams relentlessly showered his thoughts  as they continued their walk. Oh, how he loved her fresh taste, colour, vibrancy, and most importantly, their amazing taste when combined. They were the perfect match. He was with Lady Mustard through a marriage arranged by his father Gusto, the human eater. Gusto had raised him in a grill after he had been born at the hot dog factory and now he was one day old. A stone pebble bounced and vibrated in their path, a shadow loomed overhead, and before they knew it, Hot Dog man and Lady Mustard were snatched up in Gusto's chubby hands. Lady Mustard was smeared on top of him as he continued to daydream about her. Those red lips and red body, how he loved ketchup more than he hated mustard. The next minute, Hot dog man was dead while his wife stood weeping yellow tears.

Response
I strongly agree with Reid Smith's quote because the web is no longer a place where people go to find information, but a place where people go to do their daily activities. Some examples are how nowadays people are using their phones, iPods, Blackberries, computers, and any other form of technology with access to the web to check their mail and posts, interact with others on social networking sites, entertain themselves and play games. When the internet wasn't as modernized as it is now, people checked their mail through the mail box in the form of letters, interacted with others face to face and through the phone, and played boardgames and card games in the presence of their opponent. With the evolution of the web, people are spending their regular duties and leisure on the internet when they could do them off the web.
Not all my experiences on the web were to find information either. On several occasions I received or sent emails to friends and in that sense I did my communicating with them through the web when earlier in time, people would have had the same conversation on their phones or face to face. For a source of entertainment, I often visit YouTube and watch videos that interest me, and again, if the web was not the same, I would have watched T.V. instead.

In my opinion, Reid Smith's quote is a good thing because it exposes the truth of the web and how it's rapidly changing our lifestyles. I think people have to be aware of the changes occurring around them in order to understand the modern world and the major impact it's having on their lives. I see society facing several if not many challenges upcoming as a result of this shift in technology as people are becoming increasingly dependent on technology to solve their problems, complete tasks for them, educate themselves, and in general putting their lifestyles in the hands of technology. In some circumstances, people are so dependent on technology that when it fails, they don't realize it and blindly follow. This over dependency turns into an addiction and when technology is taken away, people become unsure how to handle themselves any more without its input in their lives. This creates difficulty for proper communication as well. When people are talking online, they are unable to immediately see the effect their comments have on a person because they have no one in front of them giving cues and bodily signals indicating a comment of theirs is hurtful or any one looking them in the face, daring them to say something inappropriate. When something is posted online it seems harmless because you don't see its immediate effects. In my daily life, technology impacts me in a number of ways. While I usually use the web to research my personal interests, I also use it to send emails and entertain myself. It affects how I communicate with others who live long distances away from me. If it weren't for emailing, I'd have to make long distance phone calls. Every so often, I go online to watch videos on YouTube and that kills some time. When I'm researching topics, information is easily found and at times I'm overwhelmed by too much information, resulting in me having to sift through what I find until I happen upon what I'm looking for. Without the web, the opposite problem would occur, I'd be  frustrated with too little information.

Want to Lose Your Privacy? Response
As a user of technology, the responsibilities I have seem numerous, there are definitely more than I originally thought. Before reading the article, I was ignorant of the actions some apps were conducting. Although if an app were to download my data onto their server without my permission, I would be  disappointed. It seems as if there's do much to be aware of these days concerning the safety of technology, but this article does remind me of my own experiences with apps. I don't always read the ratings and reviews as the article suggests you do, but now I am more aware of that possibility and safety precaution. The thought of an app company taking my information and downloading it onto their server kind of scares me because I can't take it back. What's done is irreversible. It feels like a violation of my privacy rights. This message is a huge eye-opener into the many tricks of app companies. I do become curious when an app asks for my information. I wonder what they could possibly want to do with it. That relates to a line in the article "What scares me about mobile apps is that they’re kind of a black box. We install them, giving them all sorts of permissions, yet we have no way of peering under their hoods to see what they’re doing." I certainly am much more open to possibilities of my information being taken, and now know what my responsibilities are. Part of being responsible is being aware of my own safety and actions, as well as knowing how to take precautions and safety measures.

10 Things Students Should Never Post on Facebook

Facebook is known worldwide for bringing people together, connecting friends, allowing users to find others who share common interests, and modernizing communication. This and many other forms of technology and social media have their pros and cons, and that's where online activities have an impact. With it's fun way of communication, Facebook seems harmless, so how bad could a wrong comment be? There's no one communicating with you face to face, no one to gauge the impact of your comments with, no one to censor what you say. Students make up a large part of social media, and knowing what not to post is needed to make the most of social media.

Responsibilities are everywhere, and Facebook is no exception. Communication and the right to freedom of speech and opinion come with a responsibility, as do all rights. Students can say what they think, but with reasonable limits. If they feel the urge to voice their opinion, it should not show disrespect to the opinions and beliefs of others. It is their responsibility that they ensure none of their posts in any way suggest superiority or rudeness. When interacting online, there's no one in front of you showing how your comments impact them, and swearing becomes a problem. Swearing is inappropriate and many may find it offensive.
Posting false rumours is another act to avoid. The victim of such behaviour could be hurt emotionally, and socially. Stalking and monitoring someone through Facebook through posts is unacceptable because it violates others' right to privacy while cyber bullying is just as bad as any other form of bullying. Hacking into someone else's account without their consent and posting inappropriate pictures of themselves or anyone else are two more things that should never make an appearance. For their own safety and security, students should refrain from posting any personal information about themselves or others including their address, phone number, etc.Unless it is desired for many to know of a particular students' social plans, private life or matters, that information should not be posted,  neither should any personal conversations. Even though it's an obvious one, passwords are not to be shared. Lying on Facebook could land students in trouble, especially when their lies contradict their actions and what they say, and with such a large network, students are likely to be found out. In general, students should never post anything on Facebook that they don't want to be shared. It's that simple.

By following these guidelines, there will most likely be less incidents on Facebook and unwanted comments. Facebook is for sharing things and like any other form of interaction, there is etiquette to be followed, although it is not as clear online. Students' security and safety are top priority, and when that's taken care of, there's less chance of danger. As long as nothing that is unintended for sharing is not posted, Facebook is fun.

If the school required uniforms and I was asked to design them, I'd have separate ones for the men, women, and staff. The mens' uniforms would consist of an earthy green sleeveless v-neck sweater with gold trimming on the collar and an ACI logo with evergreens over a black blouse. Dress pants and dress shoes would also be black. The women would similar clothes except for the dress pants that are replaced by black skirts of a moderate length with creases. Staff at ACI would dress just like the students, but in addition carry a name tag stating their name and their job.

Brain Blog
1.Opened up Microsoft word.
2.Clicked on insert;the second heading after home..
3.Selected shapes and chose the one I thought would resemble a head.
4.Sized and adjusted the shape to my liking.
5.Went back to shapes and chose an oval for my eyes.
6.Adjusted it and gave it a brown filling by left-clicking on format auto shape and choosing a colour.
7.Copy and pasted the eye to produce two identical shapes.
8.Placed the eyes on my head.
9.Returned to shapes and chose circles for my iris and pupil, and copied steps six to eight.
10.Using shapes, I chose a crescent moon under the basic shapes heading and used it as my mouth after giving it a red filling.
11.I chose the eleventh option under lines in shapes, and drew myself a nose.
12.Under lines in the shapes section, I chose the seventh option; a squiggly line, drew it using my mouse and placed it as my eyebrow.
13. Repeated step 12 for the other eyebrow
13.Under word art in insert, I chose a style that I liked and typed in whatever word I thought was in my head.
14.I adjusted the font size and clicked OK.
15.After selecting the word and left clicking on format auto shape, I went to layout and chose the option labeled in front of text.
16.I then dragged the word into my head and adjusted its angle by clicking on the green dot that appears above the picture when selected, and dragging it in the desired direction.
17. I continued doing this until I filled my head and finished.

Accept yourself
Be happy
Catch hold of opportunities
Don't discriminate
Embrace challenges
Find peace
Give more than you take
Have fun
If there's a problem, find a solution
Just be yourself
Kindness and compassion will improve your relationships with others
Lose not a chance to fly
Motivate yourself to do well
Never search for the faults of others
Open your mind
Passion will drive you
Quitting is not an option
Respect covers the potholes in life
Stand up for your beliefs and rights
Take time to reflect
Understanding is truly comprehending, but knowing is a one way road
Vacancies in your mind need to be filled
Whatever you do, do it well
X-rays see inside you, so do your friends who provide the medicine for the wound
Your youth is a dollar bill to be spent wisely
Zero is a versatile number, so be like zero

World Chaos
The earth suddenly and unexpectedly loses all gravity, throwing the world in turmoil. People, cars, animals, and objects left untethered or stuck to the ground are floating aimlessly through the air: the scene is one of utter chaos. Questions left unanswered drift through my brain, almost like the objects floating around me; they have no solid foundation. At the moment, drowning in the disarray, all is confusion, panic, and tension. The world's leaders, military recruits, and scientists are currently in deep discussion, struggling to resolve this problematic turn of events, but the questions remained unanswered. How did this happen? Why didn't anyone see this coming? Can it be reversed? If so, will anything return to normal? Right now, any trace of normality would have been a godsend. As I scanned those around me, I noticed how helpless we all looked. Who were we really in the whole scheme of things? We were the pawns in a game controlled by the universe.

Being lost in my thoughts, I hadn't noticed the gigantic semi slowly creeping towards me. It's shadow shielded me from the sun, throwing me into complete darkness. My mind wasn't processing this at the rate it should have been. Panic seized my body and fighting the feeling of dread, I forced myself forward. I felt like a rabbit being chased by a wolf. Feeling the ground underneath me, I ran for my life with my back pressed tightly against the truck. As I emerged into the sunlight, the absence of gravity was no longer. I was jerked upwards and fell right back down again. What had happened? Gravity had returned! People were throwing their efforts toward righting fallen objects and cleaning their yards. Behind me, the semi sat on its side. It was going to take a whole lot of manpower to fix that.

I'm comfortable around computers to a certain extent. Depending on what I'm doing, I could have no idea of how to navigate, or how to open or get a certain detail or page to show up on the computer screen. I'm average at my web surfing and information finding skills, but struggle with making full use of certain software such as Microsoft excel, power point, and word. I don't know how to use all the different aspects and applications available. Often, I have trouble familiarizing myself with the keyboard and all the different abilities of the computer. I've had a great first semester and achieved most of my goals so far. As I start the second semester, my goals are to gain an increased knowledge and understanding of computers and their functions. I hope to learn how to make full use of Microsoft excel, word, and power point through ICT.
